We are Dorothy Ley Hospice

We’ve been caring for community members in Etobicoke, West Toronto and Mississauga for more than 35 years. As one of Ontario’s oldest and most established hospices, we’re helping to lead the future of hospice palliative care.

We offer community and hospice residential palliative care, as well as grief and bereavement support. Our services are provided at no cost to individuals through the generosity of community members and corporate donors, community grants and government funding. Our compassionate team of palliative care physicians, nurses, staff, and volunteers provides support and care to over 2,000 individuals annually.

Land acknowledgment

Dorothy Ley Hospice and the communities we serve are located on the traditional lands of several Indigenous nations: the Wendat, the Anishnaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Métis, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

The territory is governed by Treaty 13 and the Dish With One Spoon Covenant, which is an ongoing peace agreement between many Indigenous nations to share the land, taking no more than is needed, leaving enough for others, and taking care of the land for generations to come.

We acknowledge all who have been displaced by generations of international colonialism and are grateful for the Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are with us today, those who have gone before us and the youth that inspire us for tomorrow.

Exceptional hospice palliative care for everyone in our community

We support individuals and families to live well through serious illness, end of life and loss

Everything we do is guided by our values—by CARE.

We nurture a community of volunteers, staff, palliative physicians, and partners to provide comfort and relieve suffering with love, kindness and empathy.

We are honest and hold ourselves to the highest standards of stewardship, transparency and governance. We keep our word and take responsibility for our actions.

We believe every person deserves to be celebrated, valued and supported. We embrace diversity in all of its expressions, honour each person’s story and are inclusive in all that we do.

We are guided by the teachings of our founders, evidence and best practice to deliver excellent care and achieve the full potential of hospice care.

Butterfly on two hands
"Without the Dorothy Ley Hospice service and grief group, I would have taken years to recover. The team let me know that grieving was natural and can be a healing process. I am so glad that this service was offered at no cost."
