Dorothy Ley Hospice Volunteers honoured with prestigious awards
Congratulations to Roger Harris and Charlene Evans, recipients of the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship and the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers awards.

Roger Harris was one of 11 individuals honoured with the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship in March. This is the province’s second highest civilian honour and recognizes individuals whose extraordinary volunteer efforts have fostered positive change in their communities. Roger has volunteered at Dorothy Ley Hospice since 2013 where he supports our residents and care team. He has also had significant impact volunteering at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and is also active at St. Joseph’s Hospital as well as the Disabled Sailing Association of Ontario. Thank you Roger for your outstanding support and spirit of volunteerism!

Charlene Evans was recently awarded the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers. This award was established in 1994 to acknowledge and thank outstanding hospice volunteers throughout Ontario on an annual basis. This award is named in honour of the late June Callwood who was a long-time hospice advocate, community activist, author and recipient of the Order of Canada. Charlene volunteers at Dorothy Ley Hospice in many different ways! She supports the residential team, helps out in the kitchen, had a role in supporting our social connections program (day program) and is also a wellness volunteer visiting community clients in their homes and supporting outreach events. This ceremony will occur in June at the Hospice Palliative Care Ontario Annual Conference. Congratulations Charlene!
We are fortunate to have you both on our team!
