Events & Communications Associate
Position: Full-time (1.0 FTE), 37.5 hours/week
Schedule: 5 days per week with evenings and some weekends as required
Location: On-site at the hospice

Every fundraising event, donor story and community update helps sustain the compassionate care Dorothy Ley Hospice provides. We are looking for an organized and creative Events & Communications Associate to support the planning and delivery of our fundraising events, donor stewardship activities and organizational communications.
Reporting to the Director, Development and Communications, and working closely with the Manager of Events & Communications, this role blends hands-on event coordination with communications support from managing event logistics and registrations to creating social media content, newsletters and donor-facing materials.
The opportunity
The Events & Communications Associate provides administrative, logistical and communications support for fundraising events, donor stewardship activities, annual giving campaigns and organizational communications, both internal and external. The incumbent will also support program events by creating flyers, managing registration and assisting staff as needed, and will partner with the Manager of Events & Communications to develop, produce and manage the inventory of program brochures.
The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented, collaborative team player who is comfortable balancing event logistics with creative communications work, and who brings genuine enthusiasm for supporting Dorothy Ley Hospice’s mission.
Key responsibilities
Event coordination
- Support the planning and execution of fundraising, stewardship and other organization-wide events.
- Coordinate registrations, logistics, vendors and volunteers.
- Assist with sponsorship fulfillment.
- Maintain event timelines and checklists.
- Support event-day operations.
Communications
- Create engaging social media content and manage posting schedules.
- Draft newsletters, event promotions and email communications.
- Update website content and maintain inventory of relevant publications.
- Assist with graphic design using Canva and other platforms.
- Support photography and storytelling initiatives that showcase the Hospice’s impact.
Annual giving support
- Assist with direct mail and online fundraising campaigns.
- Coordinate mailing lists and campaign logistics.
- Support donor stewardship activities.
Administrative
- Maintain donor and event records using Raiser’s Edge.
- Generate reports and mailing lists.
- Assist with budget tracking and KPI reporting.
- Provide excellent customer service to donors, participants and sponsors.
- Perform other relevant and appropriate duties as assigned.
Qualifications and experience
- Diploma or degree in communications, marketing, fundraising, event management or a related field, or equivalent work experience recognized by the Hospice.
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience.
- Experience with social media platforms, Canva, Mailchimp and Microsoft 365.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective and efficient organizational and time management skills.
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge is considered an asset.
- Prior experience in hospice, health care or non-profit organizations is preferred.

Compensation Highlights: Salary range of $49,718.75 – $61,401.60, 15 days’ vacation, 5 personal days, competitive health and dental benefits (after probation); participation in HOOPP (Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan).
