A family’s story: Finding comfort and dignity in the toughest moments
Published: November 27, 2025
My husband, Emree, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Summer 2024, when our daughter Madeline was 21 and our son Bennett was 17. He passed away peacefully at Dorothy Ley Hospice 10 months later, just shy of his 56th birthday.

Throughout this incredibly difficult journey, Dorothy Ley Hospice played a crucial role in Emree’s comfort and dignity and helped our entire family navigate the most challenging time of our lives.
Shortly after Emree’s diagnosis, we met Dr. Toupin. He saw Emree as a whole person. He brought comfort and pain relief in a way other doctors had not. The time he spent getting to know Emree as a husband, father, friend, colleague, and dreamer—not just “a cancer patient”—was such a gift to us.
With guidance from Hospice grief and bereavement staff, we were able to understand the complex journey we were facing and receive support when our world had cracked open.
When caring for Emree at home became too difficult, Dorothy Ley Hospice was able to provide the dignified, respectful, kind, and compassionate care we wanted for him. We knew he was in excellent hands, and we could simply focus on being with him and with one another.
Dorothy Ley Hospice relies on donors like you to cover nearly 50% of its annual operating costs. Your generosity ensures that no family must face end-of-life without the compassion, expertise, and comfort that the Hospice provides at no cost to them.
Sincerely,
Krista Wylie
