Capital Campaign

image Palliative Care CentreThe need for palliative care is skyrocketing and The Dorothy Ley Hospice is taking action to meet the needs of our community.

We launched a capital campaign to raise funds to achieve one of the goals of our founders - to build Toronto's first freestanding residential hospice for people facing any life-threatening illness.  Although there are several palliative care centres in Toronto targeted to specific illnesses, The Dorothy Ley Hospice will be the first palliative care centre to offer integrated community and residential care for individuals with any life-threatening illnesses.

The campaign consists of two phases.  Phase 1, Within our Reach, had a goal of $5 million.  This covered the cost of construction for The Dorothy Ley Hospice Palliative Care Centre and was achieved in September 2007.   Construction began in the winter of 2007 and was completed in February 2009. The Palliative Care Centre provides a permanent home for our community programs and services and includes a residential area that offers 24 hour care to individuals during their last weeks of life.

Phase 2 of the campaign, Building on Success, was launched in October 2007.  The goal is to raise $2.6 million to cover the cost for furnishings, equipment, landscaping, and a contingency fund to address unanticipated costs during the first year of operation.  To date, the campaign has raised $1.8 million.
