Wendy Julia Hiscox Day Program
The Wendy Julia Hiscox Day Program is offered to individuals living with life-limiting illness in the community and is available to residents of the DLH Residential Program.
Participants share experiences, support one another and engage in a variety of activities that promote their well-being. The Day Program also provides caregivers with a short-term break/.
The Day Program is offered each Wednesday at the Hospice from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It offers activities such as: personal check-in time, games, expressive arts therapy, music therapy, general arts and crafts and complementary therapy such as Therapeutic Touch, Tai Chi or seated exercise and Guided Visualization.
A light breakfast and lunch are served. Participants determine when they can and can't attend on a weekly basis.
Anyone may refer to the Day Program. The Day Program Coordinator assesses the individual's eligibility based on:
- living with a life-limiting illness
- has given consent for the referral
- can manage their own personal care and administer their own medication
- agrees to ongoing assessment to determine eligibility to the program.
The Day Program has a maximum capacity of 15 participants. Once capacity is reached, individuals who are interested in attending the program will be placed on a first-come-first-serve waitlist. While on the waitlist and not receiving other Hospice services, the Day Program Coordinator will contact the individual at least once a month.
